3D Solid Mechanical Modeling and Design

October 13, 2014 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

$90.00

Dates and Times:

Mondays, October 13, 20, 27 and November 3, 10, 17    7 – 8:30 pm

Class Description:

This class will provide an introduction to 3D computer solid modeling for mechanical application and teach you about the Autodesk Inventor software. You will learn the basics of creating a mechanical object and how to approach overall 3D design on the computer.

Register now

You will get a 3 year software education license (free from Autodesk with email registration) for Autodesk Inventor, and download the software onto your computer for use in the class.

Please note that this class is very much an introduction to the concepts and software involved, and is for mechanical 3D design. This means that it is oriented around non-organic forms and shapes. This provides a good base for any projects that will be produced in the real world, as opposed to creating 3D models for animation or video games.

Skills Covered:

•Set up and access of  Autodesk account for using education software outside of Inventor.
•Understand the fundamentals that are common to mechanical 3D solid modeling design software (Solidworks, Pro/ENGINEER, Solid Edge, etc.).
•Create sketches and solids. Modify, pattern, and assemble them in addition to working with construction planes.
•Be able to plan a mechanical 3D project and begin the creation of your idea.
•Have knowledge in using the core functionality of Autodesk Inventor.
•Create the following in Inventor: a cup, a wheel, a mailbox, and a basic appliance of your choosing.
•Be able to export your models to drawings for manufacturing and assembly.
•Know how to use the feature tree for top-down and bottom-up workflows.
•Assemble and orient multiple parts and orient them in a useful way.

Materials Required:

A somewhat robust (netbooks not really adequate for this software), portable computer that’s WiFi capable, and power supply.
